version by Howard Brenton in 2010.
Join us on 1 June 2026 for a reading of Büchner’s explosive revolutionary drama, set at the height of the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror.
Written in 1835 by the 22-year-old German revolutionary while he was hiding from the police, Danton’s Death explores the ideological and personal clash between Georges Danton and Maximilien Robespierre: one desperate to end the Terror, the other convinced that terror is the necessary path to virtue.
Howard Brenton’s 2010 version brings fresh clarity and theatrical energy to this powerful political tragedy, making it highly readable, performable, and sharply relevant.
